About Sweet Chilli

The birthplace of sweet chilli sauce is Zhongshan City located in the Guangdong province of China the same province from which hoisin sauce originated. Sweet chilli sauce (also known as Thai Sweet chilli sauce) is a common chilli sauce condiment in Thai, Afghan, Malaysian, and Western cuisines. It is also known as nam chim kai in Thailand. It is often prepared with red chilli peppers (frequently Fresno chilli, Thai, or red jalapeños), rice wine vinegar, garlic, and a sweetener such as fruit, refined sugar, or honey.

Sweet chilli sauce is usually a thick, lumpy sauce that is red or orange in colour and is typically made with chilli and sweet fruit or sugar. Popular among Asian communities, particularly in Thai and Malaysian cultures, and is also commonly used in western countries, like Australia.
